📅When will DV-2027 green card lottery registration open?+
Probably in early November 2026, but as of 26.10.2026 there is no official date.
On 14.10.2026, federal judge Jinsook Ohta (Red Eagle Law, L.C. v. Rubio, No. 26-cv-4738) issued a preliminary injunction. According to law firms, the court-approved schedule is:
- the State Department announces the registration period by 29.10.2026;
- opens registration by 01.11.2026;
- registration lasts at least 30 days;
- winners are notified by 03.12.2026.
The dates and rules should be published on travel.state.gov and in the Federal Register. If the government files an appeal, the schedule may change.
❓Why wasn’t the DV-2027 lottery held in fall 2025?+
The State Department postponed it, and then the program was suspended.
- On 05.11.2025, the State Department said it was changing the process and would announce DV-2027 dates “as soon as practicable.”
- In December 2025, the program was suspended, and DV visa issuance stopped as of 23.12.2025.
- In 2026, new rules were added: a passport is required from 10.04.2026, and there is a $1 fee.
- On 19.08.2026, the law firm Red Eagle Law filed a lawsuit, and on 14.10.2026 the court ordered registration to open.
The lottery has not been canceled: it is established by law (INA 203(c)), and only Congress can cancel it.
⏳How long will DV-2027 registration last, and will there be time to issue visas?+
Under the court schedule, at least 30 days. By law, DV-2027 visas are issued until 30.09.2027.
Because of the tight timeline, there will be less time than usual to process winners’ cases, so if you are selected, submit your documents quickly. The exact registration period will be in the official DV-2027 instructions.
🔎When and how can I check DV-2027 results?+
Only through Entrant Status Check on dvprogram.state.gov, using your confirmation number, last name, and year of birth.
According to lawyers, the court schedule requires winners to be notified by 03.12.2026, but the State Department must announce the official date. The U.S. government does not send “You won” letters or make such calls: these messages are scams.
🔮 DV-2028: when to expect it
🗓When will the DV-2028 green card lottery take place?+
As of 26.10.2026, no one has announced DV-2028 dates, and there are no notices in the Federal Register.
The number in the name is the U.S. fiscal year in which visas are issued: DV-2028 winners must get their visa by 30.09.2028. Registration for the next lottery usually happens in the fall, about a year before the “visa” year starts. Because of the DV-2027 delay, the schedule has shifted, and it is not yet known whether DV-2028 will open on the usual timeline. Follow only travel.state.gov and this page.
🔀What is the difference between DV-2027 and DV-2028?+
They are two separate lotteries for different visa years, and you must register separately for each one.
- DV-2027 – visas until 30.09.2027, registration by court order, probably in November 2026.
- DV-2028 – visas until 30.09.2028, no dates yet.
Entering DV-2027 does not stop you from applying for DV-2028. But each lottery needs a new photo: you cannot use the same photo as in last year’s entry.
🚫Some websites are already accepting DV-2028 entries. Is that true?+
No. Until the State Department announces the dates, any website that is “already accepting entries” for DV-2027 or DV-2028 is a scam or is collecting data for a “waiting list.”
Official submission happens only on dvprogram.state.gov and only during the registration period. A private company can help you prepare your photos and information in advance, but no one can submit earlier than others, and applying on the first or last day does not affect your chances.

✅What should I prepare for the green card lottery right now?+
To apply in the first days of registration, prepare in advance:
- A valid international passport and its scan: from 10.04.2026, you cannot submit the form without a passport.
- Recent photos of yourself, your spouse, and all children under 21 – 600×600, JPEG up to 240 KB. Check them for free.
- Dates and places of birth of all family members in Latin letters, as in their passports.
- Proof of education (high school certificate or diploma) – you will need it if you win.
- A way to pay the $1 fee.

🇺🇦Can Ukrainians take part in DV-2027?+
Under the DV-2026 instructions, yes: Ukraine was on the list of eligible countries (the “Europe” region). There is no official list for DV-2027 yet.
Eligibility depends on your country of birth, not your citizenship or where you live. Ukrainians in the U.S. on U4U parole or TPS can register, but getting a green card from inside the U.S. after winning has its own difficulties, so it is worth discussing with an attorney.
